Praia Mole is just 5 minutes walking distance from the hostel! Is paradise for surfers and sun worshippers, a favorite of the island's young, athletic and beautiful crowd; Surfing in Brazil is an astonishing experience that will make you fell in love with it for rest of your life. Praia Mole and its surrounding beaches are a haven for surfers and they are very popular among surfers from all around the world.
Joaquina – is one of the most famous beaches in Brazil. Surrounded by sand dunes and beautiful landscapes where you can try a sand boarding experience. Great beach for surfing or just chill out. From the rocks on the left side you can have an incredible view of the whole beach and the outstanding nature of the island.
Barra da Lagoa - is the world famous spot for surfing. It is home to world champion Jacqueline Silva and famous Praia Mole usually hosts the WCT Surfing Championships. Barra da Lagoa is a quaint fisherman's village but the physical characteristics of the beach make it the perfect place to learn to surf. There are no big rocks, sharks or deep holes and the water is usually below chest deep. The canal at Barra da Lagoa connects the Lagoa da Conceição with the open sea. It has very good connections to downtown, and it’s perfect spot for sightseeing, exploring nature and practice various sport activities. It has an advanced infrastructure and charm very popular with tourists from around the world. The entire east coast of the Island offers the stunning attractions and intact natural beauty, including the Lagoa da Conceição lagoon, which is beloved by its cosmopolitan inhabitants. Excellent restaurants and bars, nightclubs and vivid nightlife are ruling in this area. And on top of that, this region is highlighted by several of the Island's most beautiful beaches.
Florianópolis is the capital of the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina. Half of the city is located on the mainland of Brazil while the other half is on the Santa Catarina Island. Three bridges link the island to the continent, among them - Hercílio Luz Bridge, a landmark of the city. Florianópolis and its surrounding area have some of Brazil's most beautiful beaches. The city of Florianopolis is quite modern, with large shopping malls, chain and high-end restaurants and many glamorous bars and nightclubs. The highway system serving the city is very good.
It has population of more than 400.000 inhabitants (while metropolitan area is estimated to more 800.000). The city has 42 beaches and it is widely considered as center for surfing activity. Newsweek magazine put Florianópolis in "ten most dynamic cities of the world" list, while some Brazilian publication named the city as "the best place to live in Brazil".
If you are international traveler, best possible solution is to get there by plane.
It's quite easy to navigate through out city and its suburbs, due to extensive public transportation links. From downtown, dozens of busses connect all the beaches on Santa Catarina Island. Cost is around R$2,70 in one way, and it's 35-60 minutes ride. There are other means of transport, like air-conditioned yellow coaches or you can simply rent-a-car and explore on your own. During summer, traffic sometimes could be very intense.
There are always numerous events and happening to attend, galleries and pedestrian zones and of course, special attention should be paid for renowned historical buildings/places as city has very prominent and vivid history.
Florianópolis is known widely for its fresh seafood and also Portuguese food because it had been colonized by the “cultura açoriana”. If you prefer international food - there are many good choices, from Italian to Chinese cousine. In city downtown – you can get great “per kilo” buffets with food, salads, and fruit. You can get a full meal with a fresh juice for under R$15. It’s good for the budget traveler and many locals get a quick bite like that.
I had the privilege of being the first guest in this Hostel! Hostel location is incredible! It's near one of the most in surf beaches of the island of Florianópolis, near Praia Mole! Also, it's in Lagoa da Conceição area, so you can enjoy restaurants and bar in the immediate vicinity. The Hostel is completely new, rooms are spotless, tastefully decorated and of course – it's a breathtaking view. I have 100% positive recommendation and price is very good.
